What's A Motto With You? (So sorry. I couldn't resist.)

Last school year, we kinda sorta had a motto. I wanted to focus on working together and bringing each other up. So every once in a great while, particularly during arguments or tantrums, I'd throw out this little ditty.

Our family is a team!

I loved the idea behind it and it worked (most of the time.)

What I didn't love was that I never really dedicated time to talking about it at length with the boys. And I never let them know it was our motto. It was more for me, I guess.

But not this year! This year, after scouring many a home school message board, I picked a motto that I'm excited about. It sums up what I think we should all expect from each other.

This puppy is hanging on our fridge as a reminder and yesterday I made some B&W copies for the boys to color while we talked about what it meant. You should try that. Kids have some very wise insight on the meanings of kindness, hard work and fun.

It even came in handy when my 5yo wanted to give up on writing those pesky number 2s. I said, "What's the second part of our motto? Work hard, right? So let's keep working. You'll get it."

I definitely don't think you need to be a home school family to have a motto. Do you have one? (You can steal mine if you wanna!)

I think I like your motto much better than mine. Mine is "If mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy." It's not working so well for us. ;)

In all seriousness, I do love this.
